One of the frustrations shared by many women that I speak with is the struggle to reach to their income goals. Whether it’s a blogger with who’s spending huge amounts of time and energy into content production but haven’t figured out how to monetize it or a life coach who’s sold a few packages here and there but consistently hitting their income goals just hasn’t happened, the struggle for many women is very real.
If you are one of the many women struggling to make a decent income as an entrepreneur, ask yourself, “Am I trying to be everything to everyone?” Now I know that we all have altruistic intentions around serving everyone. Anyone who has reached a certain level of success feels a sort of obligation to not leave anyone behind. Remember that you can serve the masses by providing value (free or paid) but in order to truly make an impact, you need to become laser focused on both your market and your offer. Trying to serve everyone simply doesn’t work.
Imagine this scenario…You are a health coach and a new mama in her mid-thirties lands on your website. Throughout your site are images of fit men and women and you talk about how you help people to lose weight but nowhere on your site do you actually speak to her – the new mama in her mid-thirties. To her, you are just another health coach. Maybe she will sign up but more than likely she will click away. When you try to be everything to everyone, you miss the mark. Now imagine this…You brand yourself not only a health coach, but as the health coach who helps new mamas lose the extra baby weight. On your site you have before and after pictures of mamas. You use copy to describe the frustrations of trying to “get your body back” and having a new baby in the house. This new mama immediately feels a connection with you and decided, “this is the woman who can help me.” Can you see the difference? It doesn’t mean that you can’t serve people who aren’t mothers but now you have a specific offer for a specific market. You’ve positioned yourself as the expert “lose the baby fat” health coach and guess what? There are hundreds of thousands of new mamas you can reach with your services, programs, and message.
When you get clear on exactly who you want to serve and in what capacity, you will have a much bigger impact. When your focus becomes like a laser you will reach the people you are meant to serve. And because you are specifically addresses your ideal client’s pains and frustrations, you will have a much higher rate of success for getting them to believe in you and to buy your products and services. When designing your business remember the following: Focus (a clear offer to a specific market) + Action = Results
